Onsite presence in Canberra is required during hardware swap windows, implementation activities, physical inspection, troubleshooting, and urgent operational support. Preference will be given to candidates based in, or able to maintain close proximity to Canberra to ensure rapid response capability and minimise operational risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute F5 hardware refresh initiatives, including EOL replacement, capacity uplift, platform migration, and cutover planning.
- Deliver seamless transitions to current-generation F5 platforms, ensuring continuity, resilience, and compliance.
- Administer and optimise F5 BIG-IP modules, including:
- LTM(Local Traffic Manager)
- AFM(Advanced Firewall Manager)
- LTM(Local Traffic Manager)
- Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced F5 iRules
for traffic steering, security enforcement, and application logic.
- Analyse and uplift web application architectures, ensuring secure, performant, and standards?aligned deployments.
- Apply deep knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL/TLS, and associated troubleshooting methodologies across hybrid environments.
- Translate CVE announcements
into real?world operational impact, risk assessments, and remediation actions.
- Implement hardening and security controls aligned to government standards and best practice.
- Build and extend API automation and Infrastructure?as?Code
capabilities to support repeatable, scalable deployments.
- Integrate F5 platforms into complex networking environments, including Cisco ACI with Policy?Based Redirect (PBR).
- Support physical hardware swap activities, onsite troubleshooting, recovery operations, and operational readiness testing.
- Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience delivering F5 hardware refresh, migration, and uplift programs
in enterprise or government environments.
- Strong hands?on capability with F5 LTM, AFM, iRules, and associated traffic/security functions.
- Deep understanding of web application protocols, SSL/TLS, and secure traffic flows.
- Demonstrated experience in security hardening, vulnerability interpretation, and CVE impact analysis.
- Proficient scripting/programming skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell or similar) for automation and IaC.
- Experience integrating F5 into Cisco ACI
and broader hybrid networking ecosystems.
- Ability to operate in secure data centre environments and respond rapidly to operational events.
- Australian citizenship required; NV1 clearance highly desirable.
