Program Enterprise Architect – Platforms & Cyber Federal Government | Multi-Year Transformation Program | Canberra Based

A major Australian Government program is seeking a business-focused, results-driven Program Enterprise Architect with deep expertise across platforms, cyber security, and secure development environments. This role sits at the heart of a large, multi-stream modernisation initiative and provides end-to-end architectural leadership across technology, cyber, infrastructure, and application uplift activities.

You will join a central Enterprise Architecture function and play a pivotal role in shaping the target-state architecture, driving secure-by-design practices, and ensuring program delivery aligns with the whole-of-government standards, strategic roadmaps, and cybersecurity obligations.

This is a senior, influential position suited to an architect who thrives in complex environments, can lead across multiple delivery streams, and brings a strong blend of enterprise architecture, cyber uplift, and modern engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities: Program Architecture Leadership
  • Lead architecture across multiple program streams, providing direction, integration, and assurance.

  • Define and govern target state architectures aligned to strategic outcomes and enterprise standards.

  • Manage cross-stream dependencies spanning ICT, cyber, infrastructure, and application remediation.

  • Contribute architectural input into business cases, design artefacts, and delivery roadmaps.

Cyber Security Architecture
  • Embed secure-by-design principles across identity, endpoint, network, and cloud domains.

  • Ensure alignment to government security frameworks (e.g., Essential Eight, PSPF, ISM).

  • Partner with cyber teams to uplift threat detection, prevention, and response capabilities.

  • Provide authoritative guidance on risks, vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies.

Developer Workstation Uplift (Key Accountability)
  • Lead the uplift of secure developer environments across the program.

  • Define and implement standardised, managed developer workstations (e.g., Intune-managed endpoints, approved toolchains).

  • Drive secure software development practices, toolchain governance, and packaging/deployment models.

  • Ensure developer platforms meet modern security, usability, and compliance expectations.

Architecture Governance & Assurance
  • Represent architecture in governance forums, ensuring compliance and endorsement of designs.

  • Conduct and oversee design reviews, solution assurance, and risk assessments.

  • Ensure adherence to enterprise patterns, standards, and reference architectures.

About the Program: This multi-year federal initiative is delivering a major uplift of technology platforms, cybersecurity maturity, infrastructure, and legacy systems. The program is addressing long-standing technical debt, modernising core environments, and embedding secure by design practices across the organisation. Strong governance, executive sponsorship and sustained investment underpin the program’s success.

About You: You will bring:

  • Extensive experience as an Enterprise Architect or Program Architect within large, complex transformation programs.

  • Deep expertise across cyber security architecture(endpoint, identity, network, cloud).

  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps, secure development environments, and developer tooling.

  • Experience with endpoint management(e.g., Intune), device hardening, and secure workstation design.

  • Proven ability to lead architecture across multi-stream programs with strong governance and assurance practices.

  • Experience delivering technical debt reduction, modernisation, and platform uplift initiatives.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.

Location & Clearance
  • Canberra based

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a baseline or NV1 clearance(existing clearance highly regarded)

Why This Role Matters This is a rare opportunity to shape the architecture of a major federal program with significant scope, visibility, and long-term impact. You will influence strategic technology direction, uplift cyber maturity, and modernise the environments that underpin critical national services.
